The Pulau Perhentian (Perhentian Island) group of islands are the northernmost islands off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. There are two main islands -- Pulau Perhentian Besar (Perhentian Besar Island) and Pulau Perhentian Kecil (Perhentian Kecil Island) -- plus several large rocky outcrops to the northeast namely Pulau Tokong Kemudi Barat (Tokong Kemudi Barat Island), Pulau Dara Kecil (Dara Kecil Island), Pulau Tokong Kemudi (Tokong Kemudi Island), Pulau Rawa (Rawa Island), Pulau Burung (Burong Island) and Pulau Serenggeh (Serenggeh Island).

aptly named after "henti"(stop) as fishermen from mainland Kelantan and Terengganu have, for centuries, stopped over at the island for a rest or to shelter during a major storm. A rocky virgin jungle provides hour of adventures for trekkers who may chance upon flying fox, long-tailed macaques and monitor lizards, while the underneath marine life shows off a splendid garden of coral.

By Boat
To get to the Perhentian Island or Pulau Perhentian (in Malay), The only way to go there is by the sea especially a boat services from Kuala Besut.
Boat from Kuala Besut to Perhentian Island take about 1/2 hour journey by fast boat and 1 1/2 hour by slow boat. Car parking facilities are available at RM5/night on Kuala Besut.

Fast boat from Kuala Besut to Perhentian Island usually start from 9.00a.m to 5.00p.m. Actually on Kuala Besut haven't regular time for departure. The boat will depart to the island when enough passenger. For slow boat departure time at 9.30a.m and 2.30p.m.

By Flight
Direct air services from Kuala Lumpur to Kelantan, Kota Bharu are provided by Malaysia Airlines on a daily basis and Air AsiaKuala Lumpur. Take the taxi from airport to Kuala Besut.

By Bus
Take bus to Terengganu, Kuala Besut. Some of the bus company only stop at Jerteh bus stand, and you need to get taxi to Kuala Besut jetty.

Diving is one of the most famous water sports available as the island itself is blessed with a variety of hard and soft corals as well as a few ship wreck for wreck divers.

Snorkeling - For non-diver, snorkeling in front of The Resort or to other famous snorkeling sites by boat is worth trying. Snorkeling in the marine park is safe for both young and old. Children as well as adults are certain to have great time swimming among the wonders or marine life, not to forget gliding along with the turtles as well. Diving and snorkeling equipment are available for rent at the Resort.

Fishing - March till October every year is always the best season to throw your hook to the sea. Experienced anglers usually come in prepared. Boats are available for rental in most of the resort.

Jungle trekking - Pulau Perhentian's lush rain forest on the island is a particularly favorable destination for trekking, as the island's remarkable biodiversity is matched by a good network of jungle trails where one can experience the hundreds of species of flora and animal inhabitants
