Every year, Pulau Redang attracts thousands of visitors who come to enjoy the sun, beaches and spectacular marine life.
The Redang archipelago, located off the coast of Terengganu state, comprises Pulau Redang (Redang Island), Pulau Pinang (Pinang Island), Pulau Ling (Ling Island), Pulau Ekor Tebu (Ekor Tebu Island), Pulau Kerengga Besar (Kerengga Besar Island), Pulau Kerengga Kecil (Kerengga Kecil Island), Pulau Paku Besar (Paku Besar Island), Pulau Paku Kecil (Paku Kecil Island) and Pulau Lima (Lima Island). This group of islands boasts white sandy beaches, spectacular coral reefs and crystal clear waters, making it one of the best dive spots in the world.
The waters surrounding the Redang group of islands have been the second area to be gazetted as a Marine Park following Pulau Payar in Kedah. The park headquarters is located on Pulau Pinang which is off the main jetty of Pulau Redang.

By Bus
Kuala Lumpur to KualaTerengganu - Express buses are available to Kuala Terengganu, bus station Tanjung; the Konsurtium Express, SANI Express, Mutiara Express, Sutera Express, SE Warisan Express and Transnasional. All can be boarded at the Putra Bus Station.Tickets cost about RM32 one-way, normally those buses depart at 10 -11pm, and arriving at the K.T bus station on 5.30am next morning.
Penang to KualaTerengganu: Coaches like SP Bumi and Atieza depart daily at night
from Komtar or Butterworth stations to KT. Tickets cost about RM30 one-way.
Johor Bahru to KualaTerengganu: Coaches depart from Larkin station. Many choices
available including Transnasional, Damai, Adik Beradik and Cepat Express.
Tickets cost about RM34 one-way.
NOTE: Most of the resort provide the bus station pick up at the early
morning, ~RM10 - 15 / person / way
By Car KL to KT (approx. 455 km):
With Phase 1 of the new ECE (East Coast Expressway) opened in August 2004,
drivers from KL will breeze to Kuantan in half the time. When Phase 2 is
completed all the way from Kuantan to KT, KL to KT will be just over 4 hours
away!
Head east (Timor) on Karak highway 2, continue with ECE to Kuantan exit, then
proceed northeast to KT on highway 3 using the coastal road via Kemaman, Paka
and Dungun.
Penang to KT (approx. 460 km):
Head east towards Kota Bharu on East-West highway 4 via Grik and Jertih then
proceed south on highway 3 to Merang or KT.
Singapore/Johor Bahru to KT (approx. 562 km):
Head north on the North-South highway and exit at Yong Peng. Follow highway 1 to
Labis and Segamat, highway 12 to Kuantan, then use either highway 14 to KT or
coastal highway 3 via Kemaman, Paka and Dungun.
NOTE: You can park your car at the car park at the Merang jetty, the fee
from RM5 - RM10 / car / day.
By flight Direct air services from
Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu are provided by
Malaysia Airlines
on a daily basis and Air Asia.
NOTE:KT airport is located about 30 min
away from the town centre and about 30 min away from Merang jetty. You can
arrange with the resort or travel agent to provide transfers between the airport
and the jetty for an extra fee. To avoid missing your flights, you should allow
about 3 hours transfer time between Redang and KT airport (inclusive of check-in
time).
By boat Most resorts run at least 2 daily trips to and from Redang island. Boats
travel only in the day and never at night for safety reasons. By regulation, all
boats come with lifejackets for passengers. Normally, 1st daily boat from 9.00am
- 10.0am, 2nd daily boat from 12.00nn - 01.00pm
Merang jetty: Not to be confused with Marang, which is the name of
another town south of KT, Merang jetty is located about 45 minutes away from KT
and is the main departure point for visitors heading to Redang and Lang Tengah.
Shahbandar jetty: Berjaya, Redang Beach Resort & Redang campsite guests
should head for Shahbandar jetty which is in KT and located within walking
distance from the Tanjung coach station - from the coach station, head right
down the road along the coast for about 100-150 metres. Shahbandar jetty is
located opposite the general post office.
What you can do there ?
Scuba Diving - The area
around the Redang Island has been designated as a marine park and is one of the
most bio diversified underwater habitats in the world.
Diving is one of the most famous water sports available as the island itself is
blessed with a variety of hard and soft corals as well as a few ship wreck for
wreck divers.
Snorkeling - For non-diver, snorkeling in near the beach or to other
famous snorkeling sites by boat is worth trying. Snorkeling in the marine park
is safe for both young and old. Children as well as adults are certain to have
great time swimming among the wonders or marine life, not to forget gliding
along with the turtles as well. Diving and snorkeling equipment are available
for rent at the Resort.
Fishing - March till October every year is always the best season to
throw your hook to the sea. Experienced anglers usually come in prepared. Boats
are available for rental in most of the resort.
Jungle trekking - Pulau Perhentian's lush rain forest on the island is a
particularly favorable destination for trekking, as the island's remarkable
biodiversity is matched by a good network of jungle trails where one can
experience the hundreds of species of flora and animal inhabitants.
Night life - Redang island are famous of the night life, most of the
resorts of the redang island have their owned karaoke and disco facilities for
the guess.
