Tempurung Cave

The view of Tempurung Cave
Introduction
Gua Tempurung, stretching over 1.3km, is believed to have been in existence since 8000 BC. The cave is probably the largest natural limestone cave in Malaysia. Located in the vicinity of Gopeng, 24km south of Ipoh, the cave is approximately 1.5km long. Made up of five huge domes which ceilings resemble coconut shells, each dome has different formations of stalagmites and stalactites. The domes also differ from one another in terms of temperature, water level, content of limestone and marble.

Site activities
There are a few types of guided tours for visitors to choose from. The short tours provide basic information of the cave and are suitable for those who don't want to get dirty or spend too much time in the cave. A walkway and platforms have been built for the visitors' convenience and safety.

For the more adventurous ones, the longer excursions will definitely satisfy their curiosity. The tours normally take 2 to 3 1/2 hours through the underground river and come out on the other side of the cave. You will be able to see various stalactite and stalagmite formations, many of which are still growing. Cave tours and other challenging adventures are as follows:
